What is a Morton's Neuroma?
Morton's neuroma is a painful condition that affects the ball of the foot, most commonly between the second and third or third and fourth toes. It involves the thickening of tissue around one of the nerves leading to the toes, causing sharp, burning pain, tingling, or a sensation that feels like standing on a pebble or a sock is bunched up under the ball of the foot.

What Causes Morton's Neuroma?
Morton’s neuroma is often caused by repeated pressure or irritation of the nerve between the toes, most commonly due to wearing tight, narrow, or high-heeled shoes. Activities that involve high-impact on the feet—like running or court sports—can also contribute. Foot structure plays a role too; people with flat feet, high arches, or bunions may be more prone to developing this condition.
How to Treat Morton's Neuroma
Treatment for Morton's neuroma typically starts with simple, non-invasive steps. Switching to wider, cushioned shoes and using orthotic inserts can relieve pressure on the nerve. Over-the-counter pain relievers, ice, and rest may also help manage discomfort. If symptoms persist, a doctor might recommend corticosteroid injections or physical therapy. In more severe cases, surgical removal of the neuroma may be considered to provide long-term relief.
What is Cryoablation for Morton's Neuroma?
Cryoablation is a minimally invasive treatment option for Morton's neuroma that uses extreme cold to target and deactivate the affected nerve. Guided by ultrasound imaging, a probe is inserted to freeze the nerve tissue, reducing or eliminating pain without the need for traditional surgery. It’s typically done under local anesthesia and has a short recovery time, making it a popular choice for patients with persistent symptoms unresponsive to conservative treatments.
